Herman Dune, notre monument anti-folk national, le plus californien des songwriters français, présente Odysseús, un voyage musical au fil de son existence tumultueuse, accompagné d’une épopée live héroïque en solo à travers l’Europe !

Fondé à la fin des années 1990, Herman Dune est le projet du Franco-Suédois David Ivar. Issu d’influences folk (Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen), country (Townes Van Zandt, John Prine) et indie-folk (Elliot Smith, Lucinda Williams, Silver Jews), David, né et élevé à Paris, a dû s’inventer sa propre scène pour s’exprimer, à une époque où chanter à la guitare acoustique, en anglais, sur les scènes parisiennes, était considéré absurde. Depuis 2015, Herman Dune est installé à San Pedro, le quartier ouvrier et portuaire de Los Angeles, Mecque du punk rock californien (Minute Men, Black Flag) avec sa femme et collaboratrice Mayon, et ses trois chats noirs. De son bungalow californien, il dirige son propre label (Santa Cruz Records), et a sorti six albums (sur quinze au total) et réalisé plusieurs musiques de films.

On her fourth studio album, Jolie Holland embraces the live-studio rock approach of the 60’s and 70’s, and transforms it with her unmistakable touch. Loosely inspired by Neil Young’s Zuma, with nods to The Velvet Underground, the Stones, and Bowie, this playful dialogue gives way to Holland’s most grounded work. Some of the lyrics were written tipsy on a train, others out of a trance state—every one drawn from the seemingly bottomless well of her muse. From the electrified sidling ode of “Gold and Yellow,” through the outright violence of « Remember, » to “Rex’s Blues”—a devastating Townes Van Zandt rendition, Holland’s inspirations and evolving aesthetic ring bell-clear in every song. Her complete vision for this album is evident from the songs’ sound to the handwritten liner notes; even the record’s cover is a watercolor painted by the artist herself.
